can you KEEP UP?

#makemeloosemybreath

Ever felt the pressure to keep up with the Jones'?

I would be lying if I said I never felt a bit of pressure to keep up with my peer group. I have never viewed this as a bad thing-- because I have never attempted to keep up appearances to my detriment.  In fact, I think you SHOULD aspire to 'keep up'. After all, LIFE IS A COMPETITION

Just to further explain, 'keeping up' doesn't necessarily refer to material possessions. Keeping up can be related to a pleura of things. For instance, it is my desire to 'keep up', that has me looking at returning to school. In my small circle, about 50% of us have graduate degrees.. and at this point, I'd rather be a 'have' than 'have not'. So my attention has turned to finding feasible part-time school options. To me, this is example of fostering a healthy competition. Another thing, my small group of friends are all attractive. This doesn't mean they all look like flawless muscle boys or sexy R&B crooners. We all have our distinct looks... tall, short, thick, thin, light, and dark (hell, a few of 'em aint even black)... and they are all beautiful in my eyes. Regardless of the look, they all place a priority on maintaining there appearance. Healthy competition. This means, no-one is doing drugs (well, none of the really fun ones ;), no-one is allowing boyfriends or girlfriends to beat their ass, and no-one is without the funds to maintain their sexy (... shhhh, that OLAY regenerist and night time serum aint cheap!!).

Now, I might work out and drink nasty-a$$ protein shakes in an effort to 'keep up', while my boy may have a standing appoint with Lin-Ling at Pretty Nail to 'keep up' (and I know that sounds racist, but ummm that's her name)... but we are both feeding into the idea. The idea of 'keeping up'.

Like so much else, so idea of 'keeping up with the Jones' isnt the bad guy, its how the individual invokes the idea that can cause it to be negative.
