success HABITS..

*Jay and Lady O.. two of my most prized inspirations--- it can easily be said that both have had a meteoric raise to fame and success. However, a closer inspection would reveal smart move, followed by smart move.... coupled with unwavering resilience after tumbles... and topped off with careful planning for longevity.

...they are very LITERALLY my heroes...

habits of SUCCESSFUL people (p.1)

1. They look for and find opportunities where others see nothing.

2. They find a lesson while others only see a problem.

3. They are solution focused.

4. They consciously and methodically create their own success, while others hope success will find them.

5. They are fearful like everyone else, but they are not controlled or limited by fear.

6. They ask the right questions - the ones which put them in a productive, creative, positive mindset and emotional state.

7. They rarely complain (waste of energy). All complaining does is put the complainer in a negative and unproductive state.

8. They don’t blame (what’s the point?). They take complete responsibility for their actions and outcomes (or lack thereof).

9. While they are not necessarily more talented than the majority, they always find a way to maximize their potential. They get more out of themselves. They use what they have more effectively.

10. They are busy, productive and proactive. While most are laying on the couch, planning, over-thinking, sitting on their hands and generally going around in circles, they are out there getting the job done.

I know tricks in the bedroom that will RUIN you for other men

I love the feeling of rain on my skin

I pride myself on my ability to change a tire, build a closet organizer, and french braid my baby cousin's hair (yes, daddy does it all...)

I worry about my little brothers

A cute ghetto chick is like my kryptonite (what? i like'em hood)

...and despite all that leads us to the contrary, i STILL believe in Happily Ever After

GOAL setting ...

Kevin Liles-- went from unpaid intern to PRESIDENT of the Def Jam Music Group. Author, Motivational speaker, Consultant, and now entrepreneur... the man is a living road map to success

Get SMART
If you haven't set formal goals before, try following the SMART goal-setting format. With this process, goals should meet this definition:

S pecific

M easurable

A chievable

R ealistic

T imely

In other words, state clearly what you want to achieve. It must be something concrete and doable. Frame it in a way that allows you to measure your activity and include a deadline.

REflection...

At work, someone asked me a surprisingly poignant question: What 10 things are you leaving behind in 2010?

As first thought, this is the typical New Years'-facebook-status-update query, but upon further inspection- it has some profound implications.

See, I pride myself on setting goals every year (-- heck, i set GOALS every week). But with all I am attempting to add to my life, I rarely consider what I will need to leave behind. Letting go of the old, in order to make room for the NEW. What bad habits must I to put down, in order to pick up new, BETTER habits?

Its funny, I recently told a friend I really enjoyed a recent weekend trip to Cali (hometown), cause it reminded me I could SUSTAIN on stuff packed in only two carry-on bags. Sometimes I need to be reminded, that too much stuff- can really weight you down. That extra 'stuff' could be anything from the excess clothes in your closet, to the resentment you feel towards a family member, to the shame you carry for not being as PERFECT as people perceive.

So here goes...

the QUESTION:
"What are the top 10 things you're leaving behind in 2010"

my ANSWER:
"I plan on leaving behind...
Empty promises received
M&Ms and Snickers bars (*sigh*... again)
Self doubt / Negative body image
Tolerance of disrespectful individuals
Several discarded numbers from my phone
My 1st house
My fear of failure
A cluttered closet
Tons of clothes that don't represent my style
The thought of my EX and I rekindling a relationship
My complacency spending the evening at home, alone#hermitstyle
My debate regarding going back to school
